We LOVE the Northwoods of Wisconsin. In the words of Bon Jovi, (we were) “we're halfway there” the night before, so it made sense to make the rest of the trek up to Ladysmith's neck of the woods. When you see nothing but pine trees and lakes, you know you've made it.
What a nice little town with a big personality. Ladysmith is located in northwest Wisconsin and is the seat of Rusk County. The town grew up on two major industries, logging and farming. In 1840, almost all of Rusk County was covered with six million acres of white pine and hemlock, and loggers made their livings harvesting these trees. The mouth of the Flambeau River lies near Ladysmith and was an ideal spot from which to float logs down to mills at Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls. Interesting enough! And probably even more trees than that now despite the falloff of the logging industry in the early 1900's.
But enough of the nerd herd facts and on to the show…. y'all needed this didn't you!!! What a fun and vivacious crowd. It started out a bit light, rain spittle and all. And as the sky grew dark after the drizzle dissipated, the crowd grew in size. Ladysmith arranged to have the street closed down for the party. Add, one long block of food, drinks, fun and three hours of 80's rock and that did the trick. Miner Station was the best host in the middle of it all. A lot of fund raising happened and a dude named Dave even walked off with a brand new Ludwig drum set. You read that right! He did however donate to make that happen lol. Congrats man! And congrats to everyone for showing up and supporting a good cause. All the money raised will be donated to the Ladysmith Police and Fire Departments as well as the Rusk County K-9 Unit. That's a win in our book!
