A Word from Josh:
The New Glarus Firefest has become one of those reliable traditions that we treasure. This was the sixth time we've played here and so much of the experience is a pleasant routine. Still, I manage to discover some new things each time. This year I traveled with Brevin who was working with the lighting crew. This meant we had to arrive before noon along with the production truck. I had never been here so early so never new about all the children activities that they have at this time of day. It was very reminiscent of when Brevin and his brother were small and we took them to a similar fireman's festival in Fitchburg where they got to shoot a real fire hose and ride in a real fire truck. I asked Brevin if he remembered those days when such things excited him. He responded, "Yep" in his typical wordy fashion. After setting up sound and lights we took a dinner break at the Kennedy Ice Cream shop a couple of blocks away. I ate here before the show last year as well and coming back it felt like it had only been a few weeks since then, not a whole year. That's what happens when you get to be as old as I am. The show was also pleasantly familiar. The turn-out was great and we rocked it pretty good. As always, the firemen were great to work with and we had a wonderful time. Afterward we made haste in packing up because we're playing tomorrow in Fort Atkinson starting at 2 o'clock! That is going to be a challenge but I'm confident that we will rise to it.    -Josh
