A Word from Josh:
This was our third consecutive year playing at this event on the eve of Independence Day and it has become quite a tradition for us. This time the festivities included another band playing before us called Nite Fire. Their bass player Dave Shanklin is an old friend of mine. But honestly, I'm getting to the point where I don't have many young friends anymore. We had to set up our production early to accommodate the other band so some of us had time to kill. Brevin, Debbie and I enjoyed a very leisurely lunch at the Columbus Family Restaurant. It was a very pleasant departure from the chain restaurant food I usually partake in on the road. We returned to the park where Nite Fire was putting on a fun show. Then it was time for The Pie to take over the stage. The time leading up to our show was marred by news that Alyssia Kittleson, a family friend of John's who sang a song with us at Wednesday's Bike Nite show while celebrating her 26th birthday, was killed in a motorcycle accident a couple hours prior. We took the stage under the cloud of this harsh reality and I think we delivered a good show, especially under the circumstances. It is often said that what we do provides people an escape from the stresses of life. This is true for us in the band also. Some nights we need more of an escape than others.    -Josh
