A Word from Josh:
We've played at the Badger Bowl more than any other venue by a large margin that continues to grow because we currently we played here more often than any other venue. And, you know what?... We will CONTINUE to play here frequently as long as people keep coming out and showing us the type of support we saw tonight. The crowd was spectacular and fed our enthusiasm for what we do. The positive vibe started early, long before showtime, when a large group of kids with a youth hockey program came in with parents and coaches to have dinner while we were setting up. Their curiosity about the band was infectious and when it came time to sound check they gathered in front of the stage like a practice audience. It seems like we gained several new fans among the kids and their parents. The show itself went very well and included vocal cameos by Charles Thomas and Andrew Gonzales, both of whom helped us out during John's extended health-related absence last year. It's so great to have so much talent in one place. The support from the audience was electrifying and we had a great time all night. Sadly, in the wake of many musician deaths in recent weeks, I learned today about two passings that hit particularly close to me. The legendary Keith Emerson died on Friday at age 71. He was a major reason I pursued rock/prog keyboards as an instrument of choice in my formative youth. In addition, February 28 saw the passing of Gordon Ranney at age 53 following a two year battle with lung cancer. I can honestly say that Gordon, who was a resident of Madison, was one of the most talented musicians I have ever met. He focused mostly on bass guitar, but showed mastery on any instrument I saw put in front of him. I had the privilege of playing a handful of gigs with him a few years ago as a member of the band Prog. His soft-spoken demeanor was a suitable complement to his encyclopedic knowledge and elite ability as a musician. His first impression was often to be practically unnoticeable and his second impression was to be imminently likeable. To hang out and jam with him, as I had the chance to do at Prog rehearsals, was to gain an incredible amount of respect for his musical acumen. I, along with a great many in the Madison music community, mourn the passing of this brother in arms.     -Josh
