A Word from Josh:
This was a very intense night for us in many ways. John had major shoulder surgery on Wednesday and will not be singing with us for the next several weeks. Filling in on vocals is Charles Thomas. He filled in twice for us back in April so we were well-aware of his impressive capability in this role. But still, it was nerve-racking to bring him back several months later and throw him in front of one of the biggest crowds we would see all Summer. We could feel a sense of scrutiny coming from many quarters as showtime approached. And, as if this environment wasn't electric enough, a major thunderstorm came through the area about an hour before our show. Heavy rain, high winds and lightning battered the fairgrounds for about a half hour as we prepared our gear for the first set. Of course, when it comes to live music stages at the Stage Fair, when it's raining the Bud Pavilion is probably the best place to be. Still, when the storm was at its most intense, the lights in the pavilion flickered a couple of times drawing startled gasps from the mass of humanity who had come in for shelter. Fortunately, that turned out to be the worst of it. The elecricty stayed on, the weather calmed down and we enjoyed another typically strong show at one of our favorite venues. Charles sang his ass off and grew more comfortable on stage as the night progressed. The show went remarkably smoothly and it was clear by the end that any skeptics about us using a substitute singer were won over by Charles' effort. Over the years we've played on this stage over 40 times, so I guess it's cool to shake things up and throw us a curveball once in a while. I think it's safe to say that, in a true team effort, we hit this curveball out of the park.    -Josh

Mari and Debbie:
"Glad the show went on missed John but Charles did well. Hope to see you again more than once a year."
