"A Slice of the Pie" Cascade Fireman's Picnic 7.31.15

Posted by Cherry Pie

A Word from Josh:
This was a grand experiment that turned out pretty good. The concept was to have full one-hour sets from Oil Can Harry, Cherry Pie and Chasin Mason back to back on the same stage as tightly as possible. The idea is a bit daunting when you think about it. But things went amazingly smoothly thanks largely to the fine people from Badger Sound and the sound technicians from each band working so well together. This wasn't terribly surprising... after all, sound technicians are a lot like musicians but without the egos. It also helped that the festival provided us an enormous stage that enabled all three bands to have their complete complement of stage gear set up and operational at the same time. This made it possible to keep the change-over time between bands to an absolute minimum (less than 10 minutes) and to have a very successful "All-star Jam" at the end of the night with more than a dozen musicians, representing all three bands, playing at the same time. Most of the crowd seemed to appreciate the different genres on display and we appreciated the opportunity for gushing musical camaraderie between the guys (and one gal) of all the bands both on stage and off all evening. There was a lot of drinking and story-telling and drinking and talking shop and drinking and such; lots of fun for us musical geeks. We'd like to thank the Cascade Fire Department for taking a chance on this undertaking on their 100th anniversary. We are definitely looking for another opportunity to do this again.    -Josh
