"A Slice of the Pie" Waukesha County Fair 7.18.15

Posted by Cherry Pie

A Word from Josh:
This was the third straight year that we played the Coors Light Stage on the Saturday night at the Waukesha County Fair. Our show was set up the same way as the past two years with two national acts playing on the nearby Main Stage and us playing before and after them. This year's headliners were Quiet Riot and Jackyl. The evening was very warm, but it could have been hotter if it weren't for the thunderstorm that blew through the area earlier in the day. In fact, the park was cleared by the police at about 2:00 pm because of a tornado warning. Anyway, the storm quickly gave way to clear skies and all that moisture probably lowered the temperature a bit but it also made for very muddy and muggy conditions. We arrived, set up our gear and played a pretty solid set from 7:00 to 8:00 for a pretty solid crowd. As soon as we finished Quiet Riot hit the Main Stage. Things were going perfectly according to schedule and thousands of people were having a good time. However things hit a bit of a snag after Quiet Riot finished playing. Jackyl had played earlier in the day up in Oshkosh and apparently arrived in Waukesha a little behind schedule. Their drums and amps were set up on the stage and then the crowd waited for the band to bring them to life,... and they waited,... and waited. Now, back in 2013 we actually played a 30-minute set during this intermission. Since then they changed their policy and had no live music scheduled at this time. Well, tonight it probably would have been a good idea to have us play during the extended break. Jackyl finally showed up and hit the stage with much anticipated energy and put on a good show. But their set lasted until after 11:00 and we couldn't start until they were done. The beer tent had been filling back up with fans awaiting their second serving of Pie and the wait turned out to be too much for some. Many loudly voiced their displeasure at the situation while others simply left. Finally the chainsaw fell silent on the Main Stage and we started our set to much fanfare. But what had been scheduled as a 2-hour Cherry Pie set was cut down to about 50 minutes. That kinda sucked, but as always we made the most of the situation. Thanks to everybody who rocked with us until the end. If you didn't get enough Pie we're back with THREE shows in the Milwaukee area next week. Check the Schedule for details.    -Josh
