A Word from Josh:
Summer festival shows come in all shapes and sizes. This weekend we're playing at two events in very small towns. I might be tempted to call them "quaint" but that might seem condescending and I mean it in the most positive way. These are the shows where we feel like a big fish in a small pond. It's not uncommon for attendance attendance at these festivals to exceed the population of the towns they take place in and, for some of the locals, this may be the most fun they have all year. As such they treat us great, and there's nothing like an outpouring of small-town hospitality to bring that extra touch of magic to a summer day. These festivals tend to send a message that "We may be a small town, but we know how to party!" And by bringing in Cherry Pie they're counting on us to help drive that point home. That is a responsibility we take seriously. This was our first time playing at this particular event but we've played within 15 miles of here three times within the past month. As the show got underway the excitement level was modest but built up gradually. Enthusiasm was evident early on from some of John's young relatives who demonstrated some athleticism during "Jump." Very cute. By the second set we were hitting our stride and yet another Wisconsin community was learning what a Pie show is all about. Indeed, "quaint" would not be the first word that comes to mind. Late in the show several young ladies came up on stage to strut their stuff. John was able to exploit their talents for a particularly extended sing-along on "Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'." As if that wasn't excitement enough, Mother Nature soon after decided to get in on the act with a major rainstorm. That served make the crowd a bit more intimate as everybody packed into the tent to stay dry. At that point you might say that the excitement was in-tents! (Get it? "In-tents/intense" Ha Ha I crack myself up.) Unfortunately we were forced to cut the encore short due to water flooding across the pavement under the stage and threatening some of our electrical equipment. But the damp conditions at the end couldn't dampen a great night of Summer fun.     --Josh
