Let's Get
This Party
Started!

A Word from Josh:
This was a private event for the Aflac Insurance Company and was very similar to the one we did October 11th in Junction City, Kansas. The most notable difference was that this time our own Mark Hartzell provided the entire grand production for the event including sound, lights and video. I must say that Mark and his crew, Thomas and Matt, went way above and beyond all weekend working their asses off for us and for the event. They arrived at the venue on Friday afternoon for the Saturday show. Dave, John and I arrived early Friday evening and set up most of the stage equipment. Shane and Frankie weren't able to arrive until Saturday afternoon because they were playing a show with Glam at Rooters on Friday Night. The event officially started at 1:00 pm on Saturday with two rousing musical performances by Aflac employees Corinna Ridenhour and Neal Boyd. It continued with several hours of various business presentations and awards until dinner was served at 6:30 pm. Cherry Pie was scheduled to start playing at 8:00 pm but got pushed back an hour because of the length of some of the speeches. As a result we decided to eliminate the normal break in our show and play straight through, thus maintaining our momentum. Well, this tactic may have worked a little TOO WELL as the party continued heating up all night and showed no signs of stopping when we finished our encores. After some coaxing from the crowd (including a fair amount of cash being tossed onto the stage) we returned for several more songs. In the end, we played for more than four hours straight. To me, it didn't seem that long. Setting up the night before and sleeping-in in a nice hotel room left me well-rested and feeling great right to the end of the marathon show. It appeared that the other guys felt the same way. John was on his game all night and kept the crowd engaged with his vocal skills as well as his impressive command of insurance-related humor. Most of the attendees contributed to the cool vibe with their 80s costumes and enthusiasm for the music. Aflac big-wig Mike Tomlinson joined us for some singing and guitar playing on a couple of songs which went over huge with the crowd. Indeed he did a fine job, but I suspect the crowd reaction was also related to the fact that he was their boss. A large group of Army Reservists held their own banquet earlier in the evening and several of them joined our party down the stretch. John paid tribute to them and we even made an ill-fated attempt to play their requested "Man in the Box" which went nowhere in a hurry. Overall we had a great time. It was a fun weekend away from home and we'd like to thank Tammy, Brad, Nathan, Laura and everybody else who helped us be a part of such an impressive event.     --Josh
