A Word from Josh:
Another enthusiastic full house was a welcome site at the end of this emotionally draining day. Apparently Madison isn't tired of us yet either. "I didn't know what to expect tonight considering what happened in Rhode Island last night," John told the crowd at the end of the night, "But you guys kicked our ass tonight and we really appreciate it. I don't think I've ever thanked anybody for kicking my ass before." Of course he was referring to the tragedy at the Great White concert. Although it was mentioned briefly only a couple of times during our show, it certainly was on a lot of our minds all night. Earlier John addressed the pyro issue. "You know we used to use a lot of pyro and a lot of people have asked me why we stopped. Well, now I think we all know the answer to that question. It's just not worth it." He then dedicated "Home Sweet Home" to the victims of the fire. The pyro issue was just one of several reasons this horrible event hit close to home for many of us. All of us in the "Cherry Pie family" know of Great White, many of us are fans and have seen them perform. Several have met members of the band and some have even gotten to know them. This may be how the tragedy has hit home in the most literally personal way. However, even though none of us probably know personally any of the other 250 people who were in that club Thursday night, we do know what kind of people they are. They are just like us.

I'd like to mention something else that happened during our show, another human drama on a much smaller scale but no less important to the people involved. John and I dedicated "More Than Words" to Callie, a friend's long-lived and long-loved feline companion who passed away earlier this week (any cat lover can relate to the emotions involved). It was actually a song they enjoyed together and playing it in this situation proved sad but, in the end, cathartic and life-affirming. After all, whether anticipated and natural or sudden and tragic, it is the inevitability of death that makes life important... and calls on each of us to demand from ourselves a life well-lived.

We're off for three weeks now. We'll be seeing many of you at Rooters on March 14 and I promise to be much less philosophical :-)      - Josh

VOICES FROM THE CROWD:
Were you at this show?
Would you like to comment on it?

Heather:
"This was my first time seeing you guys and I must say, YOU ROCK. God you guys sound like the original bands. You made me feel like I was back in the 80's, my favorite time period and that was a great feeling. I think your looks definitely add to your performance too. I have told all my friend about your band and I can't wait to see you in April at the Bean again. God Bless America and Rhode Island."
