A Word from John:
Some of you may remember a popular show back in the 80s called the "A-Team." On this show was a character called Hannibal Smith who always had a famous line at the end of one of their many wacky adventures. What he would do is sit back, put a big cigar in his mouth and say "I love it when a plan comes together." Classic. That's the way I felt after our New Year's blow out at the Badger Bowl. I don't mind saying that I had some concerns coming into this show. First off, there were many big name local bands that we had to compete with; such as the Love Monkeys, Road Trip and American Standard, just to name a few. Now these are damn good bands that have very strong followings around the Madison area so you can understand my concern. We also had a big pyro/confetti bomb/confetti cannon salute that was to be timed with a video countdown on the big projection screen on stage and of course this all had to go off right at midnight. So there was a ton of stuff on my mind and since my train of thought rarely leaves the depot, I was feeling the pressure. Well, the midnight countdown went off without a hitch and I guess I underestimated the strength of the "big hair nation" in Madison. Rarely have I seen such a large crowd in his club. It was SRO! (standing room only) and these people were ready to get it on. And get it on they did! This was probably the most fun I've had with my clothes on in a very long time! We rocked, they rocked, we all brought in 2002 with a bang. There was a touching moment about 20 minutes into our second set when a gentleman named Kelly came on the stage and brought his girlfriend with him. Well she is no longer his girlfriend; she is now his fiancée, as Kelly got on one knee and proposed. She said "yes" of course, then we played "Open Arms" by Journey and we all had a good cry (we had several appropriate songs to chose from for if she had said "no"). Moving on, I must say it was a good 2001. We played many great shows and made hundreds of new friends. Thank you all for a great year and let's make 2002 even better. HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! And if I may quote a line from another popular TV show "The Dukes of Hazard,".... Yeeeee Haw! See ya.    - johnny s.
