This was a great night all the way around. The large crowd served to confirm that we've successfully established ourselves in Madison in a very short time. The show went pretty smoothly (unexpected for a Friday the 13th) and the audience was attentive and responsive. After the fourth song of the night John's Mother (who we had never met) approached the stage and presented us with a home-made cherry pie. It was quite a moment. Later in the set she and John's Dad danced together on a slow song. At another point in the first set a woman threw a pair of panties at John. "Great," he commented sarcastically. "The first time a woman throws her panties at us and my MOM IS HERE!" Nonetheless, the undergarment went on to serve as a amusing prop on stage for the rest of the night. Some of the people in the crowd included Walter Cullen, Sandy Cullen, Mike Radke, Becky Anderson, Tanya Pisarek, Suzy Pieper, Sandy Schroeder, Crystal Beranek, Lisa Axon, Rich Johns, Scott Thompson, Laurie Bown, Jacqueline Goltz, Jennifer Cupp, Rod Cupp, Steve Swadlee, Robin Swadlee, John Benson, Jamie Bentzler, Maribeth Luedtke, Tom Birkenmeyer, Sheila Tate and WJJO 94.1 FM's Johnny Danger. Some musicians in the crowd included Bob Duncanson & Rob Strange of Majestyk, Jenny Topel & Steve Page of Heartbreaker, Brian Bentzler of Hotter Than Karl, James Crockett of Midlife Crisis and Joe Oldenberg & "Spyder" of Demento. One variation on our show worth mentioning was the fact that John sang lead on "Rebel Yell". Shane normally sings that one but didn't on this night because of a temporary microphone problem, which visibly disappointed some of our regular fans. Although the dance floor was very active most of the night, we couldn't help but notice that it was always fullest when we did slow songs. At one point John even joked that we should do nothing but love ballads the rest of the night. But then what would our show be without some serious headbanging down the stretch? Well done Madison, we look forward to returning.    -Josh
