A Word from Josh:
Last night's successful show in Madison served as a confidence-builder as we headed to uncharted waters south of the border tonight. Yes, we decided it was time to brave the Illinois tollway and try our hand in the Chicago market. The only other time we dipped into Bear country was almost two years ago when we were met by a snow storm in Mundelein. This time weather would not be an issue. But still, the question remained, would anybody show up? Considering we had no name-recognition in the area you could look at it as the first big test for our new promotional posters. They feature a closer-up, more light-hearted picture of the band. "The chicks are gonna love those," said Jasmyn when she first saw them. We took that as a good sign. The club's management had told us that they hoped for about 100 people through the door, so we were pleased as punch to take the stage for about twice that. I credit Nick's pretty smile in the posters for those numbers. So, the show got off to a great start, but the euphoria faded in a hurry when two power failures threatened to turn this night into a nightmare. But we weathered the storm and the rest of the night went very well. Despite being so far from home there were still a few familiar faces in the crowd including "reg" Tom Birkenmeyer who came down from Racine. There were also a handful of Illinois residents who had come to see us in Wisconsin including Linda, Trish & Dawn as well as Julie Draski, her husband and a few friends. They were glad to have us in their neighborhood for a change. Julie told me that we sounded better than ever. I credit this to my case of laryngitis which kept me from singing as much as usual. I think it's safe to say that over the course of the night we won over the crowd quite convincingly. Late in the show John managed to whip up the crowd big-time by conjuring up images of the Packer-Bear rivalry... ATTITUDE CHECK!!! We really appreciated the support the crowd showed us and John asked them to help spread the word so that we can come down to Illinois more in the future. We also appreciate Rory's for giving us such a quality opportunity to display our wares in this new market for us. They were great to us and we look forward to returning.     - Josh
