A Word from John:
Well, it has been quite a week for the guys in Cherry Pie. Thursday marked our return to the Harley Davidson Stage at SummerFest followed by our appearance at the Oconomowoc Fireman's Festival on Friday. Now even though the Fireman's Fest was a considerably smaller event than SummerFest, it was still a positive show for the band. The audience was a little thin to start out, but at 7:00 p.m. on a Friday, that was to be expected. As the night went on, the crowd got larger and more vocal; and by the end of the night, we had a pretty darn good turnout which proves that no matter what the circumstances, a band must play their best at all times. We had many positive comments from people that not only saw our set at SummerFest, but also from many people who had never even heard of Cherry Pie before. So when I announced that we will be playing at the Watertown Riverfest which is not far from Oconomowoc, a rousing cheer came up from all who were in attendance.

Also on this night we had a slew of guest musicians who joined the party with us. We had the always skillful (and intoxicated) Tom "Hog" Hilber and Greg from the band Whiskey Richard come up and jam with us on "Everything About You." Then we had to get the crazy man from "Blizzard of Oz," Paul Rennert, to fill in on bass for our version of "Paranoid." (Thanks for the lyrics Paul). Last but not least, we brought up Tim "Rat" Gartzke to fill in on bass for "Rebel Yell." Rat is the man in charge of the entertainment at the Fireman's Fest and the guy who booked us for the event. He is also a good friend of the band and it was fun to see him up there jammin'.

We also had some special fans at this show. Three of my nieces, Allison, Hannah and Sarah Swenson, were there with their parents, my brother Dave and his wife Jeannette. They were wearing handmade Cherry Pie T-shirts and they were a real joy to have around on this night. There were also many Cherry Pie regulars at the show including: Erica Kaegler, Maribeth Luetdke, Brandi & Matt, Tom Birkenmeyer, Karen Fleck, Shelly Korlesky, Laurie Abraham, Vic Manchester, Stacy Hackl (plus her parents), Sheila Tate, Colleen Evans and Stephanie Roix, just to name a few.

We are now off for a couple of weeks and are talking about some new songs to break out. So make sure you come check us out when we are back around to hear some more of your favorite songs. Until then, thank you for your continued support and we will see you soon.     - johnny s.
