A Word from John:
The question was this; could 70's Disco and an 80's Big Hair coexist on the same stage, or would it clash like the Hetfields and McCoys. This was the questions everyone was asking in the weeks leading up to our show at Kelly Fest; Cherry Pie and the BoogieMen together on one stage, how would this go over? Well, I can tell you that this bold experiment was a huge success. Both bands were eager to see what the other one was all about and although our styles of music might be drastically different, the end result was the same -- everyone had one hell of a good-ass time! Yes, this was a double dose of party music. It was "Big Afros" and "Big Hair;" bell bottoms and tight leather; it was "Saturday Night Fever" and "Head Banger's Ball" all rolled into one --and it all came together without a hitch. While we were setting up we got to meet some of the guys from the BoogieMen and their crew. Let me tell you this, they were all very professional and very polite as we got to know each other a little better. It was really great to work with them.

When we hit the stage, things really got going. The crowd was warming up to us as a lot of these people had never even heard of Cherry Pie before, let alone experienced us live. But according to the crowd's response, they liked what they saw. After our first set, the BoogieMen took the stage and really kicked the party into gear. I even saw one of the Cherry Pie faithful doing her own version of the "hustle." Either that, or she was trying to adjust her underwear without using her hands. Either way, it looked good to me! Then we took the stage for our second set and with hundreds of people looking on, they got to see Cherry Pie in our element; on stage, sweat running down our faces, bashing out some of the songs the 80's had to offer. At the end of set two, many people approached us saying how impressed they were and that they were going to keep an eye out for the next Cherry Pie show. That felt good. We knew that we had a chance to win over a new legion of fans and I think we accomplished our goal. The BoogieMen went back up for their last set and closed out what was a very good experience all the way around. We'll see the BoogieMen again on July 5th at Summerfest on the Harley Davidson stage. Cherry Pie goes on at 5:30 for a two hour set with the BoogieMen to follow. We hope to see you there too. Until then...Keep on truckin'!    - John

P.S. A big HAPPY BIRTHDAY goes out to one of our regulars, Stacy Hackl, who celebrated her birthday with Cherry Pie. Hope you had fun Stacy and thanks for sharing your birthday with us.
