A Word from Nick:
I used to think hockey and football players were really tough guys but after this past Saturday night at the BADGER BOWL everyone there including myself saw just what a tough guy is all about. I believe there is some sort of disease that looms overhead the band CHERRY PIE and we have no way of stopping it. We can only hope to roll with the punches. Example............The night started out so smooth, we were set up and sound checked in plenty of time. We had a great, really great crowd at the show and we were all able to get spritzed and primped by the bands hairdresser, the Fabulous Jasmyn!! So we were cranking out our first set and we were all playing well and sounded good and looking.....(well we were looking about as good as we get.) When the set was over and we took our break in-between sets. I think that the bands feelings were, "hey this is pretty frickin cool!" Its a great feeling to not have to worry about any technical difficulties and just play music!! I remember thinking to myself before we took the stage for the second set that maybe, just maybe we would dodge the bullet of technical mishaps this time!!!

O.K. so were up on stage ready to count off the first song of the second set when...... you guessed it, the curse of CHERRY PIE cam to haunt us once more!!! Johnny Spandex, (the bands lead singer and apparent number one tough guy) was standing right next to one of the pyro effects that was supposed to shoot up a flame in the first song. The pyro accidentally went off lighting up the bands front man like a Christmas tree!!! His hair was on fire and his arm was badly burned. Johnny jumped off the stage for a brief second and started to extinguish himself. I wanted to scream out "Roll dick roll" but I like Johnny so I thought maybe I should be yelling "Roll Johnny roll" With all these thoughts going on in my mind I didn't know what to do so I did what I do best! I counted off 1,2,3,4 and without missing a beat Johnny rushed back to the stage, grabbed his trusty microphone and began singing! So lets recap, he goes from being on fire to singing in about 4 seconds. A million questions were going through the bands minds at the point in time, is he okay? How badly is he burned, do we stop so he can get medical attention, hey do you think that chick is looking at me? Well, maybe not the last one but nevertheless there a lot of questions.

With the way that our first 4 songs were on the set list the all blended together so we knew that we could not stop, however it was very apparent that Mr. Spandex was in a lot of pain and need to get some medical attention! By now the crowd, the band, everyone knew that it was pretty bad because all that you could smell instead of cheap aftershave and aqua net was burnt hair. All eyes were on Johnny wondering what makes this guy keep ticking, I mean he is still hitting all the notes and words right on the money and at the same time he just got a cheap haircut and has an arm that is smoldering. I couldn't help but think of the same situation that happened to James Hetfield of Metallica but there was a difference, Hetfield quit playing. So we're now into like our sixth or seventh song and this guy, this man chiseled from a block of stone is still singing and refusing to stop the show for some medical attention. Talk about determination, he had a look about him like "don't worry boys I am driving this rig!!! Finally a fan who is a nurse, Renee (don't know last name), got up on stage and started putting gauze wrap on Johnny's arm while he was still signing. I tell ya we are Milwaukee's most dangerous band..... to ourselves that is! So to wrap this thing up I just want to say that on a personal note, Johnny, you got a big one!........I meant heart, that he's got a big heart.

P.S. for those of you wondering about Johnny's condition I can tell you that I just spoke to him on the phone. His spirits were high and he seemed to be eating much better!!! He went to the doctor today and was told that he suffered (in every sense of the word) second degree burns to his arm and face but will be okay! His hair that didn't burn entirely off may need some V05 hot oil treatments, however I am glad to tell you that Jasmyn is right on that. But seriously fans - what other band do you know of that has a front man who would go through that kind of pain just to keep the crowd happy and not feel like they got ripped off on the cover charge? So the next time you come out to a CHERRY Pie show make sure that you shake the hand of the one they call Johnny Spandex and let him know that you appreciate what he does for this band and the fans. 'Til next time, we are coming back with more pyro, louder music, and more hair spray so make sure you come check us out again and see who will be the next victim of the curse that is... Cherry Pie.      - so long, jack hammer
