A Word from John:
The week leading up to our return to O'Briens was full of anticipation. Our last show was on New Year's Eve so it had been almost two weeks since we played, which is rare for us. Earlier in the week there was a lot of dialogue on the discussion portion of our website. A lot of fans said that they were going through a "Cherry Pie withdrawal" and they needed a fix, while I was saying that the band was going through similar symptoms and we needed to see some of our loyal fans to get us back to normal. All of this talk, plus the fact that O'Briens has always been one of our favorite places to play seem to heighten our excitement but in no way were we prepared for what was in store for us. From the first song to the last, this was without a doubt one of the funniest, most exciting nights Cherry Pie has had yet. The club was wall-to-wall people who were looking for a good time and I think it is safe to say that we delivered. It seems nothing could ruin this night for us, not even a temporary loss of stage power. We just went into the first part of "Jump" when our pyro blew a circuit and caused us to temporarily lose some stage and PA power. The only thing working was drums and bass. This could have spelled disaster, but the enthusiastic crowd would not allow it. Everyone out on the dance floor simply "took over" and just kept singing the song back to us. By the time the second chorus of the song came around, the power problem was fixed and as the band kicked back in, the crowd let loose with a thunderous roar of approval. Man, what a rush! Another high point of the evening was a return of our wayward 'daughter' Sheila Tate. Sheila hasn't been around much lately (that's another story for another time) but she let everyone know she would be back and was ready to party, since she was celebrating her birthday on this night. Her real birthday wasn't until the following week, but since she was going to be out of town on business, she decided to celebrate a week early with her friends and favorite band. As we brought her up on stage, Maribeth Luedke presented her with a cherry cheesecake, an issue of Playgirl magazine and various other gifts that seem to revolve around the theme of male genitalia (yet another story, for yet another time). Some of the other friends who helped her celebrate included Stacy Hackl, Barb Prueher, Tom Birkenmeyer, Erika Kaegler, Connie Aney, Tom Birkenmeyer, Julie Hoffman, Stephanie Roix and Lynn Rittberg. We were pleased to see Sean Hebiar, "The Pork" and "Gibbers" who came up from Mundelein, IL to catch the show. Others in attendance included Mike Christman, Anne Zube, Mark Zube, Jan Ambrosh, Dave Schwantes, Kelly Summerfeld, George Williams, Dawn Stigler, Mike Drewneak, Dave Drewneak, Jackie Smolarek, Mary Kay McNew, Danny Black, Karen Knoll, Jeff Durski, Tammy Rehak, Tammy Fitch, Tommy Dallas, Holly Erikson and Alyssa Copp. As the night went on we were having so much fun that we lost track of time and even though the crowd wanted an encore it was simply too late. I guess it is true what they say, "Time flies when you are having fun" and every time we play at O'Briens it seems to be even more fun than the last. Thank you O'Briens and we can't wait to come back.    -johnny s.

P.S. A couple of days after the O'Briens show, we were informed that our show was the second best night in the history of the club. Thank you to all the fans who came out and we hope to see you all next time. You people rock OUR world!!
